Meet Bonney M., Co-founder of HEMOFAB

“I realized that my personal solution could solve a global problem for millions of people.”

Bonney M. is a nurse and the co-founder of HEMOFAB. “I have navigated the healthcare system both as a professional and as a patient.” After 9 years of dialysis and over 40 surgeries, she lived with the daily anxiety of living with a fistula, her vital venous access for treatment.

HEMOFAB began during her own treatment, when she sewed the first protective sleeve to regain my confidence and safety in daily life. The feedback was immediate. “Other patients and medical staff and other patients noticed and began asking where they could get one.” Today she describes HEMOFAB as a MedTech startup driven by a clear mission: to protect, empower, and restore dignity to hemodialysis patients around the world, while improving their quality of life every day.

The problem she refused to ignore

“The inspiration for HEMOFAB came from a place of deep personal necessity and a professional gap I witnessed as a nurse.” She describes an “aha” moment “following the premature birth of my daughter,” when she needed “a sense of safety and normalcy for my family and myself.” “I sat down and sewed the very first protective sleeve by hand.”

“That was the spark,” she said. “I realized that my personal solution could solve a global problem for millions of people.” She founded HEMOFAB to bridge that gap between ‘just surviving’ on dialysis and living with dignity and peace of mind.

In an industry of cold medical devices, HEMOFAB brings a soul and a deep understanding of the patient’s daily struggle.

The moment that shifted her focus

“I was living through a cycle of constant hospitalizations while raising my three young daughters on my own.” she said. “Everything changed the day I realized I was fighting two battles at once: one for my health, and another to preserve a sense of normal life for my children.”

She was living with an exposed lifeline for her treatments, and the constant fear of injury or infection hung over their home. “I had to protect my family and find a way to reconcile this new, treatment-heavy reality with the responsibilities of motherhood.”

Why HEMOFAB is different

What truly sets HEMOFAB apart is that it is a co-created solution. It is a product by patients and nurses, for patients. She describes her perspective as “unique,” as “a nurse turned patient,” with “a 360-degree view of the problem.”

“As a nurse, I know the clinical protocols; as a patient who endured 40 surgeries and 9 years of dialysis, I know the physical pain and the constant mental load.” She adds, “In an industry of cold medical devices, HEMOFAB brings a soul and a deep understanding of the patient's daily struggle.”

How she leads

“I am a calm and reserved person by nature, but my leadership is fueled by a deep ambition and a protective instinct.” When she was first diagnosed, she was given only one month to live. Having survived that, she leads with quiet grit, driven by the belief that the only true regret is not leaving a meaningful impact on the world.

What she’s building right now

“What excites me most right now is witnessing the growing community of people who believe in our mission to change the narrative of patient care.” At HEMOFAB, they work to move patients from being passive recipients of treatment to becoming active 'actors' in their own care and quality of life.

“After years of development, we are now preparing for our pre-series launch” she said. “I truly cannot wait to see the first group of patients equipped with our device.”

Founderland and finding her people

For Bonney, being part of Founderland means belonging to a community that recognizes that her greatest challenges as a woman, a single mother, and a caregiver are also her greatest strengths as a founder. “Founderland offers a space where this resilience is acknowledged, valued, and transformed into impact.”

It is a place where ambitious women are empowered to turn lived experience into meaningful, global solutions. “To me, this community represents the support, validation, and shared momentum every founder needs to go further.”

Her biggest challenge—and how she moved through it

For Bonney, the most complex challenge she faced was building a venture while starting from absolute zero in a new country. She arrived without knowing the language or the social and professional codes, while managing her health and raising her daughters alone.

“I navigated this by leaning into my quiet observation skills and a deep willingness to learn. I focused on building a community of support, leveraging the kindness of mentors and experts who shared their insights and recommendations.”

Advice to her past self

“Trust your quiet strength and stay radically authentic, for your lived experience is your greatest expertise.”

Who inspires her

“I see Jesus as the perfect leader.” she explained. “From Him, I’ve learned that real power lies in service in the deep desire to share all that you are for the greater good of humanity.”

How she stays grounded

Her creativity and resilience were forged by necessity and anchored in her faith. “Each time I look at my three daughters, I am reminded that our stories matter that our experiences are valid, powerful, and deserving of space in this world.”

A mantra she lives by

“I am not late, I am not behind—I am aligned with God’s timing.”
